Filling temporary positions can be a real challenge for all employers but particularly for larger organisations, which have to plan for many types of employee leave, short-term projects and seasonal events. In existence since August 2013, UniJobs was established to help the public sector meet the staffing challenges associated with temporary job vacancies. By placing staff across public bodies on a purely cost­ recoupment basis, UniJobs offers the public sector a tailor-made service and provides employers with the flexibility to fulfil short-term requirements in a wide variety of challenging positions.

An exciting and innovative organisation, UniJobs has evolved quickly since its foundation, and we look forward to growing apace over the coming years. With the primary objective of providing flexible, cost-effective workforce solutions across the public sector, UniJobs began its journey by focusing on the higher education sector. The shared service model that has emerged from this project will serve as a blueprint for future success and can be replicated throughout the public sector.

As chairman of the board I would like to thank my board colleagues for their continuing work and support. I also wish to extend my thanks to the staff of UniJobs for the work they have put into developing the organisation thus far. The number and quality of job opportunities that have already been offered to the many employees of UniJobs are highly encouraging and set the scene for a bright future for all those involved with this great initiative.

UniJobs Chief Executive Bobby O’Connor has spent all of his working life in the recruitment industry. After graduating from the University of Limerick with a Bachelor of Business Studies in 2000, he spent 13 years working for Hays Recruitment, one of the world’s largest multinational recruitment companies. Following his appointment as a director of the company in 2008, he and a number of his senior colleagues had full responsibility for running the Irish division of the company, which specialised in recruiting professionals and skilled experts for clients across a wide range of disciplines in both the public and private sectors.

Bringing with him a wealth of experience from Hays Recruitment, Bobby O’Connor was appointed chief executive of UniJobs when it was established in August 2013. Along with his team of highly experienced recruitment professionals, he has worked tirelessly since then to realise the company’s vision of becoming the chosen provider of workforce solutions in the public sector. He reports to the UniJobs board of directors.

Bobby fervently believes in the UniJobs shared services model; a critical part of his job in this respect is to put structures in place to ensure that UniJobs delivers a high-quality, cost­effective recruitment service across multiple locations and disciplines. The delivery model is built on the use of advanced skills and technologies and is dependent upon the confidence of its users. Growing user confidence in the service and the company is something Bobby is passionate about and takes very seriously.
